The mess that the disastrous Fyre Festival left behind seems to just keep piling on for founder Billy McFarland after it was reported that he wouldn’t be paying his Fyre Media employees.
Vice News leaked audio from a conference call where McFarland explained to his employees that they would not be getting paid for the last two weeks of their work.
“After conferring with our counsel and all financial people, unfortunately we are not able to proceed with payroll,” McFarland said. “We’re not firing anyone; we’re just letting you know that there will be no payroll in the short term.”
McFarland instead offered the people who would stay on without pay a chance to move up the ladder into better paying positions. Fyre Media has already been sued atleast 7 times including a $100 million class-action lawsuit.
“I understand that this is not an ideal situation for everybody, and this will likely cause a lot of you to resign, which we totally get and understand,” he said. “That said, if you want to stick with us, we’d love to have you and we’d love to work together and hunker down and get back to a place where everything resumes to business as usual.”
One employee asked about their fate with the FBI which McFarland responds, “That’s really more of an individual thing.”
JaRule was also on the call but took the backseat as a listener.
Welp, hopefully everyone learned a valuable lesson here. Let’s chat below!
