Fyre Festival was forced to be postponed after fans say their promised “luxury” experience turned out to be a vacation from hell… word on the street is you were lucky if you made it on the island at all!
Powered by rapper JaRule and businessman Billy McFarland, Fyre Festival, a two-weekend event, was set to jump off this weekend on the island of Exumas with performances from Tyga, Desiigner, Pusha-T, Migos, Blink 182, Major Lazer and more.
Tickets ranged from $1,000 – $2,000 and VIP packages selling for a whopping $250,000 for the festival which promised “a cultural moment created from a blend of music, art, and food” while enjoying your stay on a private beach with food prepared by a celebrity chef and luxury sleeping accommodations.
The festival’s site also guaranteed VIP purchasers would “be flown roundtrip on a custom, VIP configured Boeing 737 aircraft between Miami International Airport and Exuma International Airport on Great Exuma. Guests will be staying in modern, eco-friendly, geodesic domes. Additional housing and events are available for purchase across nearby islands and private cays.”
Well, concertgoers say the festival is nothing but false advertisement! For starters, many guests were barred from deplaning their flights chartered from Miami due to the island being over compacity. Guests also say that the “modern, eco-friendly, geodesic domes” promised on the site turned out to be tents that resembled ones used during natural disasters.
“Despite the promise of a tropical paradise with private beaches, high-end sleeping accommodation and celebrity chef prepared meal, several fans on the ground tell Billboard they arrived in Exumas to find a half-finished festival site and woefully indicate conditions.
“There’s no communication on the island,” William Finley tells Billboard. The North Carolina resident paid $2,700 for an artist pass that was supposed to grant him access to the artist village along with catered food an open bar and overnight villas that Finley said were little more than badly erected tents.“They’re basically disaster relief tents,” he said. “With a mattress on some sort of bed frame. They’re not that uncomfortable but the tents are so poorly made that they’d blow over in a second if there was any wind or rain.”
…And let’s not get started on the struggle plates and poor excuse for food organizers allegedly handed out instead of their promised celebrity cooked food.
Unfortunately, things are now also going from bad to worse after Blink 182 decided to pull the plug on their performance. “Regrettably, and after much careful and difficult consideration, we want to let you know that we won’t be performing at Fyre Fest in the Bahamas this weekend and next weekend,” the tweet read. We’re not confident that we would have what we need to give you the quality of performances we always give our fans.
It was reported that some artists haven’t received any compensation for their performances and it could also be the reason behind the cancellations.
Fyre officials followed suite shortly after with a tweet that read, “After assessing the situation this morning and looking at best options for our guests, we cannot move forward as we hoped we could.” Luckily for guests organizers will also schedule flights for people already on the island as well as refunds.
