#KarlLagerfeld, who is the creative director for #Chanel, had a recent run-in with #MerylStreep. He told Women’s Wear Daily that she allegedly requested a gown from them, but changed her mind once they refused to pay her to wear the dress too! “I made a sketch, and we started to make the dress,” Lagerfeld told WWD. Later, someone from Streep’s team told Lagerfeld not to “continue the dress,” because they “found somebody who will pay us.”
Lagerfeld was taken aback by this, because Streep was allegedly to receive the dress free of charge. “After we gift her a dress that’s 100,000 euros [$105,000], we found later we had to pay [for her to wear it],” he said. We give them dresses, we make the dresses, but we don’t pay.”
Even though she’s clearly not wearing the dress tonight, the embroidered silk grey gown is still all hers and Lagerfeld came with the shade as to why she can keep it. “She could keep the dress because of the size,” Lagerfeld said. “It’s couture. It’s perfect for her.” He later added, “A genius actress, but cheapness also, no?” Sheesh!
Reps for Streep deny that she demanded to be paid to wear the Chanel dress, but even if she did, do you guys think that she was wrong in asking to be paid? Why or why not?
