Martin Luther King Jr.’s eldest son Martin Luther King III chose to spend time out of the day used to honor his father with a meeting at the Trump Towers.
MLK III met with president elect Donald Trump to discuss improving the voting system as well as finding ways to make the country “become a greater nation.”
“It is very clear that the system is not working at its maximum” when it comes to voter participant, he said, and Trump said repeatedly “that he is going to represent all Americans… I believe that’s his intent. I believe we have to consistently engage with pressure, public pressure. It doesn’t happen automatically, my father and his team understood that, did that.”
Mr. King has been an advocate for a form of free government photo identification to make it easier for people without photo ids to vote as well as help low income families financially.
This meeting comes right after Donald Trump decided to use his Twitter fingers against Congressman John Lewis. Once labeled as “one of the most respected men in America,” Lewis played a major role in the Civil Rights Movement. He is remembered as one of the original Freedom Riders as well as a key organizer behind the “March on Washington.”
The beef started after Lewis stated on NBC’s “Meet The Press” that he would not be attending Trump’s Inauguration because he doesn’t see him being fit for office making it the first Inauguration he missed in 30 years.
Well of course, Donnie took it to heart and decided to take his words to Twitter:
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to……

mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!

Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get!

When asked about the beef, MLK III decided to take a more neutral route.
“I would say John Lewis has demonstrated that he is action,” King said in response to Donald calling Lewis all talk no action.
“Things get said on both sides in the heat of emotion. And at some point in this nation, we’ve got to move forward.”
