A woman was killed and five other people were injured on Saturday after a large tree fell on a wedding party at a park in California.
According to Fox News, the wedding party was taking photos at Whittier’s Penn Park in Southern California when a large eucalyptus tree collapsed, causing at least 20 people to be trapped under it.
Witnesses at the scene said they heard a loud crack and seen people running away from the area. Footage from the scene shows rescue teams using chainsaws to cut through the branches as they rescued those that were trapped.
According to officials four of those injured suffered from scrapes and bruises, and the Los Angeles Times reported that a 4-year-old girl was listed in critical condition as she suffered from head trauma.
Officials say that the tree may have been weakened from California’s continued drought, and the recent rainfall may have caused the tree to collapse.
We send our condolences to those who were affected.
