You know what they say, that actions speak louder than words?
Lovey Harris, a tenth grader at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School brought that phrase to life Monday when she gifted another student with a pair of new shoes.
When we spoke with Lovey, she said the student, who she doesn’t know personally is constantly bullied because of his shoes and she just couldn’t sit back and watch him be treated so badly because of his shoes.
“From the beginning of the school year he’s been wearing shoes that were in a really bad condition and I told my mom because it was heart breaking for me. And then was getting bullied…all the time. They were teasing him and saying he was dirty and that he smells,” She said. “But my mom always taught me to treat people as equals no matter what color, race, or size.”
In the video that was posted to Facebook, Lovey approached the student as he was sitting with a group of friends with a box wrapped with a bow.
“I don’t know if you celebrate Christmas or not but I got you this,” she said.
“It’s getting colder. I wanted to buy him some shoes,” she said. “I don’t know what grade he’s in, or what his name is but his shoes had been tore up really bad.. I mean holes in it to the point where you can lift them and see his feet.”
As far as the boy, his friends claim he wouldn’t put the box down for the rest of the day and although he is shy and didn’t say thank you in the video, he cried once the camera was off and she feels h was super appreciative of her actions.
“I was so nervous approaching him, but I wanted to cry at the same time. It was heartwarming. I was scared he was going to be offended.”
Lovey could have joined the rest of the rest of the students who bullied him, but she took a different route and we applaud her for her act of kindness!
You go, girl!
