The verdict is in for Dylann Roof’s mental status and thankfully a judge has ruled that the mass murderer is competent to stand trial!
According to CNN, U.S. District Judge Richard Mark Gergel made the ruling today but is also making the decision to seal any evidence behind his finding in hopes that it doesn’t effect Roof’s right to a fair trial.
Roof will now stand trial for the nine lives he took at the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina back in June lact year.
The 22-year-old also faces 33 federal charges and if convicted he can face the death penalty.
His charges include: nine counts of violating the Hate Crime Act resulting in death; three counts of violating the Hate Crime Act involving an attempt to kill; nine counts of obstruction of exercise of religion resulting in death; three counts of obstruction of exercise of religion involving an attempt to kill and use of a dangerous weapon; nine counts of use of a firearm to commit murder during and in relation to a crime of violence. – via CNN
