President-elect Donald Trump is finally settling his Trump University fraud case for 25 million.
According to the New York Times, Donald was hit with a lawsuit back in 2013 from students who claimed that they didn’t get the education that the program promised. During Donald’s campaign he made it very clear that he had no intentions of settling the case.
“It’s something I could have settled many times,” Mr. Trump said during a debate in February. “I could settle it right now for very little money, but I don’t want to do it out of principle.”
He continued, “The people that took the course all signed — most — many — many signed report cards saying it was fantastic, it was wonderful, it was beautiful.
But it seems Donald had a change of heart of his Nov. 8 election win.
Donald tweeted Saturday,
“I settled the Trump University lawsuit for a small fraction of the potential award because as President I have to focus on our country.”
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is happy his clients are finally getting what they deserve.
”Today’s $25 million settlement agreement is a stunning reversal by Donald Trump and a major victory for the over 6,000 victims of his fraudulent university,” he said in a statement. “I am pleased that under the terms of this settlement, every victim will receive restitution and that Donald Trump will pay up to $1 million in penalties to the State of New York for violating state education laws.”
He continued,
“In 2013, my office sued Donald Trump for swindling thousands of innocent Americans out of millions of dollars through a scheme known at Trump University,” Schneiderman’s statement said. “Donald Trump fought us every step of the way, filing baseless charges and fruitless appeal s and refusing to settle for even modest amounts of compensation for the victims of his phony university. Today, that all changes.”
