Election Day is officially 41 days away which has prompted many celebrities and public figures to use their platforms in a hope to influence people to vote! Unfortunately, many African Americans have been discouraged to vote because many believe that their vote wouldn’t matter in a system that’s been build to oppress us.
Well “actorvist” Jesse Williams has partnered with #SaveTheDay to create a voting PSA that illustrates why it is important to register to vote. “This is not about the White House. This is about your house,” the actor begins. “If you’re not registered to vote, you can’t sit on a jury. You can’t choose your mayor. You can’t choose your city council. You can’t even choose your district attorney. You can’t decide which measures will help your family and community, and which will put them at risk.”
It is up to us to make the changes that we want to see in this country and it starts with something as simple as registering to vote. You also give up your right to complain when you don’t vote. It’s free anyway and it doesn’t hurt!
