Today was a big media day for the NBA and many players were asked whether or not they’d be standing in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick when it comes to the National Anthem protests. When Lebron James was asked about his thoughts, he replied, “I’m all in favor of anyone — athlete or not an athlete — being able to express what they believe in in a peaceful manner, and that’s exactly what Colin Kaepernick is doing, and I respect that.”
Well, if you were wondering if he would be one of the players participating in the protests, Lebron basically says taking a knee isn’t something his beliefs agree with, which is why he’s decided to remain standing during the reciting of the national anthem.
“Me standing for the national anthem is something I will do. That’s who I am. That’s what I believe in, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect and don’t agree with what Colin Kaepernick is doing. You have the right to voice your opinion, stand for your opinion — and he’s doing it in the most peaceful way I’ve seen someone do something.”
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that James isn’t down with the cause. Back in 2012, he and his Miami Heat teammates wore hoodies in support of Trayvon Martin and ‘I Can’t Breathe’ t-shirts in support of Eric Garner in 2014. Here we are in 2016 protesting the racism in the national anthem, though.
Do you guys think that since LeBron James is one of the most prominent athletes in history that he should take a knee in solidarity with the other athletes? Why it why not? Let’s chat!
