Hillary Clinton said in an interview that the next 50 days will determine the next 50 years and regardless of your preferred party or candidate her statement is very real and applies to all Americans. As most of us know, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will be facing off for the 2016 Presidential debate today (Sept. 26).
We understand how redundant, asinine, and boring politics can be but we also understand the severity in our participation during the next few weeks leading up to the presidential election.
If you aren’t the most informed person when it comes to politics and are still lost in the sauce when it comes to this election, you are not alone. Here’s a quick guide to what you should be looking for during tonight’s debate.
Hillary and Donald Trump will be coming with the shade for real! When the shade gets real, keep rules #1 – #3 in mind!
Rule #1: Don’t get distracted! Stay on track for why we are here. We are here to see which candidate is the best for the job. Keep in mind that the job involves you and you deserve only the best.
Rule #2: Think about more than the next four years. Long-term thinking is vital. But also keep in mind American history. Again, long-term thinking is vital. You want to be looking out for each candidate’s plans that will most affect you and the communities you identify with.
Rule #3 These candidates are soliciting your vote! Make them earn it. See which candidate is making it their business to fight for your vote. Don’t let them short change you. The goal is
Rule #4 Don’t let them talk you into how you feel. Hillary and Donald are well aware that they need the black vote so be cautious to not get sold on something THEY want you to be sold on.
Topics it would be wise for each candidate to address:
– Police relationship with the black communities
Does either candidate address a plan to build a better relationship between police and community members? Ask yourself how many more Alton Sterlings you can handle.
– Junior and community colleges being made free
Who has the bigger concern about the students who can’t afford to further their education? The argument could go a few different ways –Students can access more scholarship opportunities during their time at a community or junior college. You also have to consider the opportunities a student potentially misses out on because of their limited resources like school. Keep in mind how our nation is advancing. It’s pretty safe to say that if you aren’t educated you’ll be left out of the economy in more ways than one.
– ISIS & The United States’ debt with China and Russia
What is the strategy to free ourselves from our debts with China and Russia. “Also consider ISIS. Someone is funding ISIS. I’m not saying its either of them but pay attention to what address when it comes to debts with other countries,” Pennsylvania State Representative candidate, Ed Gainey says.
– National infrastructure (i.e. bridges, highways, etc.) What is each candidate’s plan to improve America’s infrastructure and transportation advancement? Gainey explains to us how important a plan is for those two areas. For starters, he tells us that with a solid plan to improve the problems we visibly have, jobs will open up for thousands. As far as our transportation advancements go, “It shouldn’t take 8 or 9 hours to fly from one state to the next. With the way technology is skyrocketing, we should be keeping up with that.” He concludes that even in advancing our transportation methods, a plethora of more jobs will become available.
– NRA gun laws loopholes
What is Hillary and Donald Trump’s take on gun control laws? How concerned are they with how illegal guns are floating around in our streets. Are they planning to hold carriers responsible for their weapons? “They should be doing mandatory universal background checks on each applicant as well as making them carry insurance. That way by the end of the year each registered carrier can either receive an incentive or be punished for the care of their gun.”
