Retired NFL star #RayLewis is known for speaking his mind, so it may or may come as a surprise that he has something to say about Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest. Ironically, Lewis doesn’t agree with Colin’s way of doing things.
“I understand what you’re trying to do, but take the flag out of it,” Lewis began while on sports show “Undisputed”…. “[but] I have uncles. I have brothers who walked out of my house, going into the military, saying, ‘I will never see you again.’ To understand that, I will always respect that part of what our patriotism should be.”
The thing is, patriotism is defined as national loyalty or pride, so is Lewis saying that the protest isn’t justified? Kaepernick has already explained that he will not show his pride for a country that turns a blind eye to racism and oppression. His decision to do that has very little to do with having basic respect for those who have willingly given their lives for this country.
Anyway, Lewis doesn’t believe that taking a knee during the national anthem is doing enough for the cause and believes that these protesting athletes should do more if they’re so sick of racism.
“To affect true change, if you don’t have a solution, if you aren’t seen as a true activist, to go into the hood and do these things on a daily basis, and not just jump up and protest this one thing because you’re sick of it? We’ve been sick of racism for 400 plus years,” he ranted.
