Roommates, the #FreshPrinceOfBelAir was an iconic show that aired in the early 90’s. It’s what’s produced superstars like #WillSmith, #AlfonsoRibeiro and #TatyanaAli, but the character that captured all of our hearts the most is actor #JosephMarcell, also known as Geoffrey the Butler! Marcell was born in St. Lucia, but later moved to London at the age of nine. That transition is responsible for his pleasant British accent and it seemed to have a lessening affect on the shade he threw on the show!
After Fresh Prince ended in 1996, Marcell continued acting. He was a classically trained actor before joining the series, so he returned to theater and performed in King Lear, Gem of the Ocean and a host of other films and tv shows. The actor even made an appearance in the ‘Auld Wives’ music video from Bear’s Den earlier this year and has a new role in a show called Hero. IMDB describes the series as being, “Inspired by the life and times of Caribbean war hero, judge and diplomat Ulric Cross whose amazing life spanned key moments of the 20th Century like WW2, African independence movements, Black Power, the rise of a new brand of Black leadership around the world, events that define our present reality.”
