Another police involved shooting took place in Indianapolis early this morning, yes we know the headline is getting old. The black man shot was armed but turns out he was the person who called them in the first place!
According to the NY Daily News, Carl Williams called police around 4:34 a.m. after “a black male with a rifle” tried to carjack his wife.
While on the phone, Williams told authorities that he last saw the suspect in a black car. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a black car parked in the driveway. Williams was just coming out of the garage with his own gun (assuming for his own protection) when he was shot in abdomen by nine-year police vet, Christopher Mills.
“Obviously the homeowner had a weapon out, but I’m not sure what conversations would have occurred, if any, between the officer and the homeowner,” Assistant Chief Randall Taylor told reporters.
Apparently no conversation was had because the 48-year-old’s niece says her uncle was shot without warning.
“He called the police. He is the one who called the police and he opened up his garage and he just made eye contact and immediately he got shot,” Kamaria Howard said.
It was also confirmed that Williams, who never fired a shot, is now in the hospital listed in critical condition and Mills is on administrative leave.
The suspect who started the whole debacle is currently still on the loose.
