As the start of the new school year has just begun, students are dreading the long class days and the homework that has to be done after that. Well, for one elementary school, students won’t have to worry about homework all year round!
According to the NY Post, Texas elementary school teacher, Brandy Young has introduced a new homework policy to her students…. There is none!
“After much research this summer, I am trying something new. Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year,” Young wrote to parents as they attended “Meet The Teachers” night at Godley Elementary School.
Instead she is encouraging more family time and sleep as a substitute for hard math problems and tedious reading.
“Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance. Rather, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early.”
One parent, who seemed actually happy about the news, posted the note to Facebook with the caption, “Brooke is loving her new teacher already!”
Shoot, I would love her too! Where was she when I was struggling in elementary school! Anyways, hopefully this helps out students and probably set precedent for future teaching tactics!
Lets chat below, do you think the teacher is on the right track?
