Today marks seven years since the King of Pop passed away and like other deaths, it’s normal to reflect on that person’s life. With each passing year, sometimes you learn new things about that person and this year, The Daily Mirror obtained recordings of Michael Jackson giving his honest opinion of Prince during his filming for the Moonwalkers documentary. The singer didn’t think that Prince was not very nice, though. “He was so rude, one of rudest people I have ever met,” Jackson said. “Prince is very competitive. He has been very mean and nasty to my family.”
Both artists were pitted against each other a lot during the 80’s, because not only were they both super talented, but they were also black, so there’s no doubt that the media played on this heavy. In fact, MJ believed that it may have gone to Prince’s head a little bit and cautioned him to slow his roll.
“I don’t like to be compared to Prince at all,” Jackson said. “I have proven myself since I was real little. It’s not fair. He feels like I’m his opponent. I hope he changes because boy, he’s gonna get hurt. He’s the type that might commit suicide or something.” It’s very eerie that Michael said this considering Prince died of an accidental drug overdose earlier this year.
Jackson didn’t solely discuss Prince in these tapes, though. He gave his two cents on a few of his family members as well. According to The Daily Mirror, “He labelled brothers Randy “hardheaded”, Jackie “negative” and Jermaine “talented but lacking self-confidence”. The singer claimed sister LaToya’s behaviour was weird, moaned Janet was a tomboy and said he loathed his emotionless dad Joe.”
Nothing new there, about Joe.
Rest in peace, Michael!
