Roommates, we are sending our prayers to the loved ones of Oluwatoyin Salau, the 19-year-old activist from Tallahassee, FL was confirmed deceased by family members early Monday. On the day that Salau went missing, she took to Twitter to reveal that she had been sexually assaulted.
According to USA Today, family members say Salau was found deceased on Saturday after she had been reported missing back on June 6th. Authorities confirmed that she was one of two homicide victims that had been discovered Saturday night. The other victim was identified as Victoria “Vicki” Sims, 75. Police have identified Aaron Glee Jr., 49, as the suspect.
Court documents show that Glee was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability. Three days after Salau was reported missing, he was reportedly arrested again for battery.
Social media has been flooded with photos and videos of Salau at recent Black Lives Matter protests in Tallahassee, FL, as people have demanded that justice is served when it comes to her death.
Danaya Hemphill, a friend of Salau, said, “I had a feeling that we were not going to find Toyin alive. Toyin was very passionate. She was very vocal she was very loving, very spiritual, very caring.”
this hurts different. she was so vocal & tweeted about her abuser, she was an activist who was at every protest, she was a baby… literally 19. no one looks out for black women. all of this to say, i’m beyond heartbroken. #JusticeforToyin pic.twitter.com/eB9DT0yrEZ

Oluwatoyin Salau was only 19 years old, and spent her last days on earth fighting for Black lives. She deserved so much more. #JusticeForToyin pic.twitter.com/VdwYnpaUCn

I lived in Tallahassee for five years. It’s the state capital.
No 19 year old child should be housing insecure in the capital of any state in this nation. Our protections aren’t protecting anybody.
