Mega Mogul, Oprah Winfrey, is set to star and produce in a new HBO film that will tell the story of a woman named Henrietta Lacks.
If you did not know, Lacks, is known for being an African-American woman who had her cells “unintentionally” used to create the first immortal human cell line, according to Deadline.
Based in the 1950s in Baltimore, Maryland, the film we’ll be told from the perspective of Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks (which will be played by Winfrey). Deadline describes the film to be a story about,
“unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever.”
The film’s storyline comes from a book written by Rebecca Skloot titled ‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks’. The film is being labeled as a ‘passion project’; Winfrey has been working behind the
scenes in 2010. The production of the film is supposed to kick off this summer!
