Say whaaaat! Yes, Roommates, you’ve read that correctly! Last month, Disney announced that there would be another Frozen film and fans are already demanding that there be some LGBTQ representation in the movie. More specifically, they’re urging for Elsa to have a girlfriend and considering how epic the first movie was, this movie character could turn out to be one of the greatest sources of inspiration for this generation.
The guardian speculates that since Frozen, “eschewed a traditional happy-ever-after with a prince in favour of sisterly devotion,” then it deserves a little progression. This is what prompted Twitter user Alexis Isabel to start the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend hashtag. For MTV, she writes, “any in the LGBT community view this movie as a metaphor for the experience of coming out and accepting who you are. Yet Elsa, the film’s protagonist, will probably end up with a male prince or king in the upcoming Frozen sequel. These thoughts soon drenched my mind and pushed me to tweet about how “iconic” it would be if Frozen’s Elsa were cast alongside a princess instead.”
The new hashtag only invited more LGBTQ supporters to join in. Check out some of the tweets below:
