An 18-year-old Florida mother has been arrested and charged after allegedly hiring a hitman to kill her three-year-old son. According to CBS News, the woman has since bonded out of jail.
According to PEOPLE, 18-year-old Jazmin Paez was booked into the Miami-Dade County detention center on Wednesday.
CBS News reports Paez has been charged with “first-degree solicitation of murder.” Additionally, she has also been charged with “third-degree using a communications device for an unlawful use.”
However, the outlet also adds that she’s since bonded out of police custody, reportedly on a $15,000 bond, as cited by PEOPLE.
According to CBS News, Paez utilized a fake hitman-for-hire website, RentaHitman.com, to arrange the murder of her 3-year-old son. The 18-year-old mother allegedly provided her son’s address, as well as his photo, for use in the alleged murder plot.
Additionally, Paez allegedly requested for the murder of her toddler to take place within a specific timeframe.
This information then made its way to authorities through the website’s owner, Robert Innes. Innes explained that he created the website to “catch and curb those looking to hire a killer,” as reported by CBS News.
Additionally, he shared that Paez’s request expressed her desire to “get something done once and for all” as she wanted her son to be “far, far away.”
According to PEOPLE, Innes shared that website receives “thousands of inquiries” daily.” However, the accuracy of the information provided by Paez regarding the whereabouts of her toddler proved this case to be serious.
“The ability to research names and addresses and verify the intended target lived in a particular address. That to me is a red flag. If that information is corroborated, to me that is something that needs to be looked at and that’s why I referred it.”
From there, the Miami-Dade Police Department began involved in the investigation. Authorities then traced the IP of the computer used to create the website request and confirmed it belonged to Paez.
They then posed as the hired hitman and “conducted a conversation” with Paez, where she reiterated her desire for her son to be killed.
Furthermore, the 18-year-old mother even agreed to pay $3,000 for the crime to take place.
After the arrest of Paez, investigators have reportedly confirmed that her son is in “safe custody” with other family members, as per New York Post.
It is unclear how many years in jail Paez faces for her role in the crime.
