#Roommates this story is extremely sad. Kisha Michael, 31, a single mother of three sons, and Marquintan Sandlin, 32, a single father of four daughters lost their lives Sunday, during an officer involved shooting, and many people are demanding answers!
According to NBCLosAngeles, the two were was shot and killed by police, and were asleep when police first arrived on the scene, responding to a call they got about the two sitting in a car.
Family members said that it’s possible that after a night out of partying, the two fell asleep in the car. The family however couldn’t explain why there would be a gun in the car, or most importantly why police choose to use deadly force when there were so many other ways they could have handled the situation.
Police had tried to wake the couple and up in an effort to minimize the situation, for at least 45 minutes, according to Inglewood Mayor James Butts. This was the first public explanation for what happened Sunday, from the time of the initial call to the shooting.
Police had previously said that the responding officers saw the woman had a gun, and following their protocol gave the two strict orders to exit the vehicle.
“Obviously at some point they were conscious because somebody felt threatened,” said Butts, a retired law enforcement officer who previously had served as police chief in other cities. He said it is important for police to finish their investigation, and verify facts, before commenting further.
This story is extremely heartbreaking, and
we will keep you updated on this story, but one thing is for sure the families of those killed aren’t letting this go without a fight.
