#TweetAndDelete. While everyone was busy soaking up their final minutes of 2015, and looking forward to a fresh start of 2016, we just have to pause and reflect on the final major Twitter clap back of the year.
So around 9:45 p.m. last night, the Time Square Ball Twitter page tweeted: “#BallLivesMatter.”
Great idea, right? Twitter users suggested not.
Now y’all already know that in 2014 the #BlackLivesMatter movement debuted, which basically started the #AllLivesMatter controversy. It was obvious that in 2015 there were no signs of improving the state of the very issue(s) that started the #BLM hashtag. With that being said it’s possible that those Twitter responses were from users who felt the Time Square Ball page was making a mockery of not only the #BlackLivesMatter slogan, but the plight it represents.
Twitter went into a frenzy over the tweet. One user, @Roopee tweeted a disturbing tweet that has potential to be true, “This #balllivesmatter fiasco is proof that 2016 is likely to suck as hard as 2015 unless we get real proactive.”
While the tweet has since been deleted, an official spokespersons responded, “The Tweet was unacceptable and indefensible. As soon as event organizers became aware of it, it was removed immediately. The person responsible was an independent freelancer and will not be engaged again.”
What a great way to ruffle some feathers within the last few hours of the year…
