Social media was in a tizzy last week after The Shade Room asked who their favorite ‘106 & Park’ host was. The daily television show included a 90-minute music video countdown that featured the most popular videos from genres like hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and dancehall.
‘106 & Park’ made its debut in September 2000. The show was introduced to television viewers with original hosts AJ and Free. The famous duo hosted the show from 2000-2005, per OtakuKart.
In 2005, ‘Rap City: The Basement’ host Big Tigger and model Julissa Bermudez took over the couch to countdown the hottest Top 10 videos. However, Terrence J and Rocsi had the longest reign holding down the program from 2006-2012.
For the first time in the show’s 12-year history, there were four hosts appearing on the stage from 2012-2013, including Shad “Bow Wow” Moss along with Jordan “Shorty da Prince” Johnson,” Kimberly Paigion Walker, and Mykel “Miss Mykie” Gray. Bow Wow also had special co-hosts from time to time such as, Angela Simmons and Adrienne Bailon.
However, almost a year later, ‘106 & Park’ returned with Bow Wow and Keshia Chanté as the permanent hosts before officially ending in 2014, per Billboard.
The Shade Room’s post about the past ‘106 & Park’ hosts made the Roomies flood the comment section with various thoughts and opinions. While some social media users agreed on AJ and Free, others did give credit to Terrence J and Rocsi Diaz. Even a few celebrities hopped in to weigh in on the matter, including Joseline Hernandez and rapper Lil Mama.
Joseline Hernandez wrote, “Free n AJ duh.”
Lil Mama wrote, “The Originators … AJ & Free.”
Instagram user @iam_whatshername_ wrote, “TO BE FAIR HALF THESE PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS WERENT BORN UNTIL AFTER FREE AND AJ.”
While Instagram user @jeffwitdalocs wrote, “Ain’t nobody better than AJ & Free. Terrance and Rocsi come in second.
